Village Hall
Enlargement to community hall in West Chiltington.
The project comprised the detailed design and construction of an extension and internal alteration to a well used village hall. The work included the enlargement of the main hall, an extension of the kitchen facilities and the formation of a new foyer with cloaks and toilets accommodation.
The existing hall has an unusual self supporting barrel vaulted roof restrained by a ring beam on top of a panelled wall. A unique tensioned truss had to be incorporated into the design to facilitate the enlargement of the hall.
The new flat roofed frontage was curved in plan to reflect the vaulted hall roof and to angle the frontage towards the road to improve visual accessibility.
